Minutes: Sept. 15th minutes, sent out by email, were approved by SuSu as sent.
Treasurer’s Report: Jan out of town, but sent Financial Report: Checkbook Balance as of 9/30/17 is $3,212.38 and w/CD total assets $4,808.76 .
CASA donation: Michael made a motion to donate $400 to local charity, CASA; seconded and passed.
Membership: LaJean reported that we now have 206 paid members. The 20 past due received a letter with a 11/1 deadline to be taken off rolls.
Name Change: Discussed our name causing confusion as to being a subdivision group rather than county group. All agreed on Towns County Civic Association as a new name and Noel will bring before membership at Jan. meeting.
City of Hiawassee: 9/25 mtg.: Announced that the salaries for the new Mayor and Council members have to go back to 1998 salaries of $100/meeting for Council and $16K for Mayor. Can be changed in 2019. Halloween on Sq. will be Tues. 10/31, 5:30-7:30. Economic Dir. Dennis Tumlin from TN spoke w/power pt. presentation. 10/5 mtg.: Contract w/TCWS Authority is on hold until Nov. 7th meeting. Chief Smith reported 162 drug arrests YTD—double of last year’s. Jeepers are expected to attend Halloween on the Sq.
City of Y.H.: Two vacant seats on Council, Lynn Nations qualified for one. Big discussion on a resident who had to install booster pump because of low pressure. He wants some compensation from City, but Michael didn’t think they were leaning that way. Sidewalks and a 3rd crosswalk on Hwy. 76 were discussed. Franchise Fee going from 3-5%; and last of SPLOST to be spent on playground equip. at Mayors Park.
T.C. Commissioner: There is a possibility of a company coming to town that would hire 36 workers; HRWC will have lake clean-up on Nov. 4th at 9 a.m. at beach area.
Water Authority: 8” line break at BVR & on Gum Log shut off water for a time in those areas, so they are discussing a robo call when water goes out. The Authority and City will discuss water agreement at Nov. City meeting.
Chamber: Contract has been received by the county and is in negotiation with Bass Masters Tournament, so all CVB funds are tied to that. 407 members now; one Board member dropped out, Aric Drott, TCHA member, has put his name for this. Holiday Inn hasn’t paid their Hotel/Motel fees for several months; that goes to CVB. Eclipse brought in $17K, part given to local charities and $200 going for prize for business Xmas decoration contest.
CVB: Grace Howard attends each meeting, SuSu volunteered to go if Grace can’t. The Pickleball folks wanted to play at Rec. Center when their Sunday Tournament was rained out, but floor is too bad. CVB has obligated $65K to the Bass Masters.
Winter Meeting: SuSu and Joan talked about being very impressed with Dennis Tumlin’s presentation at City Hall and she will try to get him to come to the Jan. 19th meeting. Noel made a motion to pay for his room for one night, probably at BVR; seconded and passed.
TVA/DNR letter: Answer was no help on leaving lake up thru. Oct., and they said to contact DNR about docks destroyed by board boats. DNR Webb said people could take the boat owners to Civil Court and signs could be put at marinas and on docks. They sent a chart on lake quality: presently FAIR.
